Château de Fléchères, a 17th century treasure

John Taylor Lyon

Chateau de Fléchères

Built on the foundations of a 12th-century stronghold house, this castle on the banks of the Saône, listed as one of the region's jewels, was rebuilt between 1610 and 1616 to capture the essence of Italian pleasure residences. With its moat, drawbridge and corner towers, it retains a feudal appearance while boasting a majestic structure built of golden Beaujolais stone. Its central main building, flanked by square towers topped with imperial-style domes, frames a sumptuous living space, complemented by a formal garden and English-style parkland.
